Vitality Active Rewards w/ Apple
Vitality program subscribers are able to order an Apple Watch for an initial activation fee plus tax. The amount they pay for their Apple Watch thereafter is based on the number of workouts they complete in a calendar month. I was asked to create the end-to-end experience – from initially learning about the product through all experience points including aware, explore, compare, purchase, set up, use, and maintain.
The responsive web, native mobile & watch app prototypes based on this research was then reviewed by Apple and refined together during several stakeholder workshops.
Users earn points throughout the day based on activity
“Vitality shares our conviction that being active has a powerful impact on people’s lives, and we are thrilled to collaborate with them on this initiative.”
— Jeff Williams, COO, Apple Inc.
What I did
Discovery with stakeholders and cross functional team members to understand the project goals, technical, and program constraints. Analysis of the current app experience to work out where integration could take place.
Defined the full end-to-end user experience which maps the first time user journey – from initially learning about the product or service through all experience points including aware, explore, compare, purchase, set up, use, and maintain.
Mapped and prioritized user journeys co-creating the full experience with a lead visual designer.
The responsive web, native mobile & watch app prototypes based were reviewed with Apple and we iterated and refined the design over the course of several strategy and design workshops.

The Brief
Vitality’s program offers individualized biometric benchmarking, followed by personalized and tangible goal-setting, connected to incentives proven to spark positive behavior change, all of which is activated through an integrated tracking and fulfillment technology connected to a variety of wearable devices delivering high levels of engagement, sustained results, detailed and high quality data, administrative ease, and outcome-based capability.
Here I was asked to create the experience for learning about the then unreleased and unannounced Apple Watch offering. Specifically ordering a watch, and tracking participation in the program.
The responsive web, native mobile & watch app prototypes based on this research was then reviewed by Apple and refined during several stakeholder workshops. The final product was developed and its release announced with the Apple Watch Global launch.
This was a successful project though challenging due to Apples secrecy on which aspects of the watch UI, services and features we could have knowledge of prior to launch.
