Vice Sponsored UX Talk @ Tumblr HQ to promote diversity, inclusion and opportunity in the tech industry for Black and Latinx youth. Event to expose and inspire young people of color to pursue exciting careers in tech.

The panel portion of the event included a conversation between a music professional and a tech professional (me) discussing the great opportunities that careers in Tech and Experience Design provide.

For the hack-a-thon portion four to five students worked in teams supported by two professional software engineers (Uber, Tumblr, Linkedin) and one professional designer. Students work together to brainstorm an idea for a web or mobile app based on the event's theme. Students utilized teamwork, effective communication, time-management, and all the necessary skills involved in building a successful product.

Designers assisted students in sketching ideas and wireframing. After the ideation stage, developers brought the students’ ideas to life. Participants also worked together to create a four minute presentation that described and demonstrated their ideas. Prizes were awarded to the top three groups based on the originality of the idea, quality of the presentation and the suitability of their idea to the event's theme.
